OnlineWanderer is my little corner of the internet for hiking stories, scenic trails and the adventures that happen somewhere between the starting point and the finish.

Behind the name

Why
OnlineWanderer?

I love being outside, exploring new trails and discovering places that are easy to miss when you're rushing from one destination to the next. For me, hiking isn't just about getting from A to B. It's about the views, the quiet moments, the unexpected detours and everything that happens along the way.

OnlineWanderer became a place where I can collect those adventures, share the stories behind the trails and hopefully help other people discover a few new places of their own.

I haven't always been someone who goes out looking for hiking trails. For a long time, getting somewhere mostly meant getting there as quickly and conveniently as possible. It wasn't until later that I started exploring the places around me and realised just how much I had been passing by without ever really seeing it.

One of the unexpected sparks for that came from watching Dean Nicholson and Nala from 1bike1world. Following their adventures made me want to get outside and explore for myself.

What started close to home gradually became something bigger. I began looking for new places to explore, eventually swapping shorter walks for longer trails and discovering just how much I enjoyed seeing where a path might take me. And somewhere along the way, OnlineWanderer grew with it.

I'm happiest when I can take my time.

I'm happiest when I can take my time, look around and actually experience where I am. I enjoy scenic routes, quieter trails and places that feel a little removed from the crowds.

“I don't pretend every hike is perfect either.”

Sometimes I get lost, can't find the place I was looking for, underestimate a trail, take the wrong turn or simply run out of energy to explore that one last thing I had planned. Sometimes I just wonder what on earth I was thinking. Those moments are part of the story too.

The real boss

And then there's Queen Cleo 👑🐾

If you've noticed the little cat appearing around OnlineWanderer, that's no random mascot — that's Cleo.

She came into my life when she was six months old, after breaking her leg, and somehow this little furball went on to become part of my own wandering story too. On some of my earlier walks, she would actually come along — usually perfectly content perched on top of my backpack or shoulder while I did the walking.

Her trail days are behind her now, but she's still very much part of OnlineWanderer. The little cat you see in the OnlineWanderer logo and branding is Cleo. These days, she prefers supervising the adventures from the comfort of home.

So yes, the cat in the logo has a name. And naturally, she's the real one in charge. ❤️
