Setting Off on a Historical Journey!

I can't even begin to describe how excited I was for this trip! 🙌 As someone who's passionate about history, there's something incredibly special about exploring the very places where pivotal events took place—especially those connected to the liberation of the Netherlands. Just the thought of walking in the footsteps of the brave souls who fought here so long ago... OMG, I was all in! 👌👊 Let’s do this!

Having visited the area before, I knew that the path might be a bit tricky to find. This isn’t your typical well-marked tourist trail. After doing some homework, I discovered that the route was available on the Pacer app, so I quickly downloaded it and set off on the first leg of the Airbornepad: Market Garden.

Now, I’m not sure if it’s just me, but without the app, I would have been completely lost. The path was so subtle and hidden that it almost seemed to disappear at times. Seriously, without Pacer, I might have wandered off course completely. So, a massive shoutout to the app for keeping me on track and making this adventure possible!

The journey kicked off with a fascinating start, leading me past a sluis (I’m still not entirely sure if that translates better as a water lock or a sluice—if anyone knows, feel free to enlighten me!). From there, the path gently curved back towards the dyke. It was a picturesque route, but there was one thing that kind of threw me off: cars are allowed on this road, even on the dyke itself. I have to say, it took away from the vibe a bit. I was hoping for a more peaceful, immersive experience, and the traffic was a bit of a buzzkill.

Another thing that caught my attention was the lack of informational signs along the way. For a route with such deep historical significance, I was surprised that there weren’t more markers or plaques telling the stories of what happened here. It felt like a missed opportunity to connect walkers more deeply with the history of the area.

That said, the road itself was undeniably beautiful, and the walk was definitely worth the effort. Despite the few downsides, there was something truly special about being there, knowing the history beneath my feet. I decided to end this leg of my journey back at the dyke, feeling both fulfilled and eager to continue exploring.
